“Intelligent” life on earth (which phrase is, with a lot of human hubris, used to define a species called homo sapiens) was an accident. An asteroid hit earth 65 million years ago decimating the dinosaurs and then, more recently, the Indian sub-continent joined the Asian continent causing the Himalayas to rise. The rise of the Himalayas changed weather patterns in East Africa where there was loss of forests, thus forcing mankind’s ancestors to climb down from the trees and acquire an upright gait. Had these accidents not happened, i.e., the decimation of dinosaurs and the human acquisition of an upright gait, humans, as we know them would not have evolved. Why then, should we assume that the accidents that happened on earth, necessarily happened elsewhere?
